Hillsborough Desaster 25 years ago today

Today we stop and think for a moment about the Families of the 96 people killed, many teenagers and children, and the 766 injured in the terrible tragedy.
I hope with all my heart that you will find peace someday.

LIVERPOOL YOU ARE IN MY THOUGHTS TODAY

The Hillsborough disaster was an incident that occurred on 15 April 1989 at the Hillsborough Stadium in Sheffield, England. During the FA Cup semi-final match between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest football clubs, a human crush resulted in the deaths of 96 people and injuries to 766 others. The incident has since been blamed primarily on the police for letting too many people enter the stadium, and remains the worst stadium-related disaster in British history, and one of the world's worst football disasters.

Wow - 25 years! Somehow it just seems like only recent memory. My heart goes out to the surviving family members who'll probably not like to remember. Tragic. Thanks for the post!

I remember that disaster as well but blaming the police seems a little bit wrong.

The owners of the stadium and the football club have a larger responsibility in this. At least that would be the case in the U.S.

Crowd control is also the responsibility of the owners or club more so than the police inside the stadium and the surrounding grounds.

Never the less this is one of the worst things to happen in football, too many people lost their lives and were hurt. One life lost is actually too many. After all football matches are not war zones.

We should never forget that day.

So the hundreds of 'fans' without tickets that jumped and climbed the barriers and walls and caused the crush were not responsible? It was all the Police's fault?
Whilst I feel for those killed and injured who probably had tickets and should have been there, no one seems to want to point the finger at those that actually caused the deaths by cramming into an area they shouldn't have been in and then 'surging' to try and get to the front. This matter would have probably been laid to rest (no pun intended) if it were not for the compensation lawyers who have no doubt been making a great deal of cash out of the bereaved relatives.
