If you are photographing wild animals, how close do you try to get?

Would you like to get as close as this photographer was able to get?

Great video. So cool. Seals are such docile creatures. I wouldn't recommend this with Lions, Tigers or Bears though. As well as Orcas'(when they feed on seals.) Good thing they don't come on the beach.

I saw a video on TV years ago where the orcas came right up out of the surf onto the beach and grabbed seals and then went back in to the ocean. I wasn't aware at that time that orcas ate seals, and seeing that was a huge shock. Violent yet mesmerizing.

How close to wild animals do I get? As close as my zoom lens can get me and as far away as I can be.

As close as I can safely for me and them. When time and circumstances permit, I will stalk the animal by walking toward them a few steps closer and several steps perpendicular, By getting closer slowly they don't seem to frighten as easily.

But this would never be with anything more dangerous than a bunnie rabbit.

I have seen some nuckelheads get too close. Especially in Yellowstone & Glacier. Close enough that when the moose became annoyed, the idiot couldn't get a clean get - - way fast enough!! Score: Bull Moose 1 ... Photographer 0

Orcas are beautiful - I see hundreds of them in Alaskan waters back "in the day." They seem to get along with people, pretty much, but think about it; they gotta eat something. And, at their size that could be just about anything.

Was in Yellowstone many years ago, and while taking to a warden he stated the year before a visiting Japanese man tried to place his 5 year old son on the back of a lying Bison. Needless to say the bison gored the father. The father survived and said he thought they were tame, that is why he tried to do it.

Animals are not unpredictable, human's are! and Stupidity runs deep in some.

Very wild, no closer than a mile (F/10, 2000 mm Celestron Telescope with .35 mm attached). Sorta wild, half a mile. not wild, no fun. Ha.

He was a lying buffalo --- he kept saying I'm tame, I'm tame, it's ok. Just when you take a picture, don't give me red eye with the flash!
