Yup. Since he is not standing for re-election he doesn't want to get his nuts in a vice. :hunf:

Why are the officers waving tasers around and acting so aggressively? Some officers look as though they are in fear of their lives. All they have in front of them is a small crowd of angry people with cameras. Is it impossible for the officers to listen calmly to the people's concerns and take statements? The people feel that they have a genuine grievance (they may be wrong) but I never saw a reason to throw a woman to the ground and taser a young man who, apparently, was not violent. I am shocked, I have never seen federal officers behave like this before.

This (and a few other events) proves what I have been saying for a long time:
Most LEO's are good guys, every one you ask will swear that their oath to uphold and defend the constitution is valid, but when it comes right down to it they all develop 'mob mentality'. As a group they are nothing more than a legal gang!

To all who have replied to this posting, I just heard on Fox News this afternoon that the Feds had decided to step down and stop trying to round up that rancher's cattle. Reason given "potential of harming the public". What a bunch of crap and to think of the tax payers money that was wasted.

So the Cattle Rancher is trying to strike a blow for "freedom" by refusing to pay grazing fees for fattening his cows on Government Land? He's stealing from us, and you support the stupid idiot.

I understand your point of view, and you may be correct, however, that does not excuse the conduct of the officers. Perhaps the argument is about 'free grazing rights', which is or was a long held tradition in cattle country. The people, not just the rancher, are clearly aggrieved because of the loss of these perceived 'rights'. Common land allows anyone to graze animals on that land in perpetuity. This right to free grazing land dates back to the first settlers in America and is pre-dated by that in Europe. England enshrined it in common law in the late Middle Ages. Quote from Wikipedia: "Magna Carta was important in the colonisation of America, as England's legal system was used as a model for many of the colonies when they were developing their own legal systems."

I also read somewhere about the 'Rights of the People', maybe someone can refresh my memory.

The land is state owned and had an agreement with the ranchers, 53 of them, for 140 years to allow the cattle to graze their for a small fee per head.
The feds took over the land and harassed the ranchers over time and forced 52 of them to quit raising cattle. The last rancher had enough of it and decided to fight back. The governor of NV told the feds that they were wrong and to leave. But I'm sure it isn't over as the feds get what they want in the end.

I have to believe that there is something about the land that the feds aren't saying is the reason they want it. They just keep coming up with stupid reasons that gives them the 'legal' backing to behave the way they are.
