This is my final version. It is not perfect by any means but it’s more to my liking and also reflects suggestions made by many of you. YOUR FINAL COMMENT WOULD BE APPRECIATED.
1 My main concern was the hallow around the trees. Bob suggested using the poor man’s de-hallowing tool but this didn’t work out for me. I have PSE 11; that may be the problem. I finally used the clone tool suggested by Shine11. It was tedious but worked out ok. This is still a light blue predominance over the trees and I’ll have to go back for final cleanups if decide to keep this photo.
The settings I used for the clone tool were size 38, opacity approx 60 using brush size 35 and Darken
2 I de-saturated the snow and water area thus getting rid of the murky look of the water. The new look is with blue water which is closer to what I remember. This change was prompted by versions from Travesty, Bob and Sonya580.
3 Lightened and reduced blue and red as well as added contrast and lightened the trees on the far side.
4 I had a mishap when I tried to improve the sky texture and the fix I did was fast and needs to be revisited.
I thank you all for helping me and I hope this final version is better that the original.

I love the added blue tones and what it did to change the color of the water. As you said, the haloing fix is not perfect, but it looks better. I like the improvements you made, it's a very attractive image.
