I just discovered the beauty of night shots. A friend who is a real Photographer turned me onto the idea after looking into one of his albums. I'm still working on the photos and I know I need a remote shutter to get the best responce. Any other Ideas will be appreaciated thanks and Semper Fi.

Longer exposure times usually required at night require a remote release and probably a tripod or other support. Getting the right balance between the ambient light, and the intense, focused light from streetlamps and such is very difficult. Practice Makes Perfect.

Also, use the mirror lock-up feature. The mirror slapping the camera induces shake that usually shows up on the hightlights of an image.

I purchase a wireless remote on ebay for $.99 from China and it works great, oh it was for the Canon xTi.

self timer works great... unless you are trying to time something moving into the photo.

Hey usmc1063- Semper Fi back at you! My Father was a career Marine- I was born @ Cherry Point- he was a DI @ PI if you know what I'm saying.
I love low light photography and have had great success with hand-held, fairly fast glass (1.4, 1.8, 2.8) and high ISOs if needed. Sometimes there is so much light that you can even stop down more. Experiment. Pixels are cheap. I love street shooting and night shots. Shutter-speed is crucial- see what works for you- the faster the better...I can show you some night stuff of mine once I get to my home desktop if you want.

You know if you're shooting stars or astronomy shots a tripod and remote are essential, and possibly night architectural shots- stuff without movement.

I read it back and think of other things to ask- DOH! Last one, promise. What kind of gear are you using?

I lied! WB is your friend! Most older digitals need the white balance dialed in on different types of light- EXPERIMENT- see if you have trim adjustments.
