First my rant...then my question...I like doing business with companies that I feel are giving me good information. Right now Tamron is failing in that department. I have pre-paid for the new 150-600. I contacted Tamron today and Brian told me to expect another two months at best. I am in outside industrial sales and am held to a certain standard of accountability by my customers to provide accurate information...why can't Tamron. Now for my question...is this lens that much better than the Sigma 150-500. I have read the reviews and it looks like the Tamron is worth the wait, but the Sigma may be the one for me. I like moon photography and wild bird photography. Canon owners of both these lenses, your opinion would be appreciated...ck

hi Chris my wife and i own both lenses and a 6d and 7d body
on the 7d body both lenses are pretty much the same both preform well in ideal conditions ,but not so well in low light finding the right settings will drive nuts lol
on the 6d body the tamron is very good in all lights , the sigma is not far behind but not as good
the tamron is a new lense and mine seems to hunt a little now i have used it a fair bit ,so time will tell which one lasts longer
i have justed posted some osprey pics taken with both lenses i did not put witch lense camara combo , it would be hard to pic i would say

If you're waiting for the Tamron for your Nikon, then it could be a while (whatever that means). The delay is because of Tamron's agreement with Canon. Canon owners got the lens first, and Nikon owners have to wait.

MT shooter can give you more info about this.

I own the Sigma 50-500. It's a bit more expensive than the 150-500 but it's an absolutely outstanding performer in it's class; wildlife, birds and even landscapes where I really like what it does with color. I use it with a Canon 60D so can't speak to how it would perform on a Nikon but would expect it to be similar.

Yesterday I read that Tamron wants to ensure that the new lens works with all newer Nikons and is waiting for specs from Nikon on two models to be released later this year. The author indicated that this information came directly from Tamron. So, it isn't a production issue, more of a software issue. It could be mid summer before it's available. Maybe Sigma will have a new model by then (lol).

So the Tamron for Nikon will be even better than the Tamron for Canon. Whoopee!

Why did you prepay for this lens? Most companies do not take your money till they ship.

I would wait on the Tamron. Sigma has done a lot to improve their glass but this being an older lens it is not one of those lenses. Buying this lens is what I call crap shoot, you either get a good copy or you don't. Tamron is trying to compete with the newer Sigma lenses so it should be a good lens. I have one on backorder and after having had a chance to test one last Sunday decided it is worth waiting for. I liked the feel of it as well as the results I got. I hope I get mine soon so I can give it a good workout.

I pre-ordered the Tamron 600 back on March 3rd, but don't really want to wait until June or July for it. Leaning towards cancelling the 600 and going with the Sigma 500 if I can't get a decent answer from Tamron about a ship date. Some of these posts are making me reconsider. Sounds like Tamron will be better.

Don't laugh. If the current trend continues, companies will sponsor races and have them named after them.

I just got my Tamron 150-600 this week, purely a fluke by checking Amazon and E-bay regularly. I'm very much an amateur, but this lens is much better than my Tamron 18-270 that I have had for 6-7 years. I love my 18-270, so I think the 150-600 is really going to be a great VALUE
