Portrait Lens for Nikon D70

I'd like to buy a new portrait lens for my Nikon D70 and would love some feedback as to which lens would be recommended. Also, if there are any suggestions as to where I should purchase one new or used would be appreciated. I Just discovered this website and have already learned so much, thank you!

I have two: The Nikon 18-70mm (1:3.5-4.5G) and a Nikon 70-300mm (1:4-5.6G)

Dawn, You have the perfect lens for portraiture. The 18-70 should do everything from full length to head shots.
Off camera flash and reflectors would be my concern.

If you want to go cheap and get a lens that will open up to limit the Depth os Field so you can have the background out of focus I would look into an old used 135 prim lens. I have s old spiratone from the 70's that is a T mount that is great. You will have to learn to set your shutter speed and apature on manual. And this is for head shots. - Dave

The Nikon D70 and D70s have the portrait setting of course. I have taken the lazy way out and have the Nikon 18-200 lens that I use for portraits as well as sports photography .... and even weddings.

Thank you! I guess what I'm missing is the blurred out background - I don't know how to get that easily with the lens I currently have.

I've tried the portrait setting and it's not giving me quite what I'm looking for. I'd like to have the background out of focus in some shots. I'll look into the Nikon 18-200. Thank you, Wes :)

I have found that one of my favorite lenses for portraits is my 100mm Macro f2.8 with a hybrid IS. While my lens is a Canon, Nikon makes an outstanding 100mm Macro f2.8. I don't know of it has IS or not, but if you are using a tripod, you don't need it. I take a lot of hand held shots.
