After vacillating for several months I finally took the plunge last night and ordered my new Nikon D7100. I also got an extra battery and two 32g sd cards. Cannot wait to get my hands on it next week. It will take some getting used to as it does so much more than my D90 but they say you're never too old to learn. (I will be testing that theory) I welcome any suggestions, lessons learned, things you especially like or don't really like about this camera if you have one. Not looking for the Why did you not get a full frame, etc Just looking for opinions on the D7100 if you use one.... Thanks and looking forward to hearing about your experiences with it.

Congrats! I also stepped up from a D90 to another camera, the D610. I'm glad I had the D90 first - there was so much that I learned from it. It was a tough decision between the D610 and the D7100 - both are great cameras.
There will definitely be a learning curve on the your new camera - just keep practicing. There are lots of experts on this forum who can answer your questions. Hope to see you posting pictures soon.

DB,
Congratulations, I got my D7100 about a year ago when it first came out. And I love it, I also have the D7000. I am not sure what the D90 all had, but I know if you take raw it is awesome. You have 2 slots for you SD cards. I like to set my for one raw and the other jpg. Being a smaller person, the D7100 fits just right in my hand. Not to heavy like the full frames. There are sites on the internet that I watched little video's that helped me. I think you will really love it. Good luck and enjoy you are never to old to learn.

It's a great camera. I like the user modes. Very useful for when you want to return to a specific setup after making changes to settings.

There are some settings that will disable others. So if you can't get a setting to work, then there is another setting that negates it. I've backed myself into a corner a few times. There are two buttons marked with a green dot that will reset the settings to their defaults. Very handy.

The photos are great. This is my second DSLR and I use every bit of my free time to learn what it can do.

Enjoy.

Ummmm cost??? and all my lenses are DX. and I am completely satisfied with the DX format for my purposes :D I am pretty much a "recreational photographer" and not planning to start a business so the DX format works perfectly for me..... :D
Also I have small hands and after 3 surgeries on each of them the lighter weight camera works best for me :D

DB,
You will love the D7100. I have had mine since they first came out in March of 2013. Nikon has tutorials on this camera and so does Utube. Read you manual and then read it again. Had mine for a year and still learning. No substitute for using the camera and learning the controls. Get out there and run that shutter count up.

DB, I never had a full frame so I can't compare it to the APS-C, but I love my D7100 and my D7000. I am attaching pictures one of which won a Tamron contest on a Lakota Wolf Preserve tour in NJ. These pictures were taken with a D7100 and a Tamron 18-270 lens. I don't think you will be disappointed with the D7100. I certainly am not. Good luck and happy shooting.
