I enjoy shooting ice hockey games. I already have a SIGMA 70-200mm f2.8 and very happry with it. Want to get a lens for shooting when the action gets close to the glass and the net. I am looking at the SIGMA 17-50mm f2.8 EX DC OS HSM. Seen good reviews on YouTube for this lens. Checking what you guys think if you have this lens in your collection? Going price is $569.00 at B&H and/or ADORAMA..... Don't want to go grey at all. The lens has a 4 year warranty.

The Sigma 17-50mm F2.8 is a great little lens and should do you well if you are using a crop sensor body. (DC means its for crop sensors in Sigma terms)
The 18-35mm if a beauty of a lens, (also a DC only), and a game changer in many ways, but that gap from 35mm to 70mm might be a bit much for what you are asking about.
Maybe also consider Sigmas newest 17-70mm F2.8-4 lens, I have not used one but its getting wonderful reviews!

I almost mentioned the Sigma 24-105 Art but being a F4 lens, I don't know if it's fast enough for indoor hockey on his camera. It might also not be wide enough. I have never been to a hockey game, so I can't make that recommendation.

Need f2.8 or lower.....f 4 is not fast enough for indoor ice hockey games..... I am leaning towards the SIGMA 17-50mm f2.8 I am shooting with a crop sensor by the way. Thanks for the info. and keep it coming.....

I'm a firm believer if you shoot Nikon use Nikon lenses if Canon use their lenses. I know Sigma and Tamron are making some good stuff these days but stay with your brand.

That sounds just like what a racist would say. Stick with your own kind.

If he's doing sports, wouldn't the Sport version be better? I was just reading about the three new Sigma lenses somewhere...
Found it...http://www.thephoblographer.com/2012/09/17/sigma-announces-new-lenses-segments-them-into-art-contemporary-and-sports/#.U0IAcfldWSo

You have a problem with putting Zeiss lenses on Nikon or Canon cameras?
