If you are serious about shooting wide angle, The Tokina 11-16 is held in very high esteem among experience shooters.

Do you anticipate using this lens other than this trip? And will you have opportunity to try lens(es) you are thinking of purchasing before departure? Renting might be the better option, and be sure you insure properly if you rent.

I have the Nikon 10.5 and the Tonkina 11-16. I looked back through my pictures and found with the 10.5 it is about 3% and the 11-16 about 10% of my shoots. So I guess I don't use them a lot. But they come in handy for some shoots. The 10.5 is hard to get the learning curve, but when you learn it , it is a fun lenses.

Speed is important for the interiors of places like La Segrada and Gaudi's houses. Flashes are not allowed in some fo them. Consider going to the Roman ruins of Barconi(close to the Gothic Cathedral). You can spend hours there, and no flash allowed.

You'll also need it for La Rambla at night. If you do go there at night, carry no more than you need - and keep a hand on yur camera body. pickpockets are supposed to be rampant, and they know how to slash and grab.

Not looking to debate using a filter vs not using one. Just food for thought, filters are cheaper to replace than a good lens.

Am always watching for weather elements, fingerprints, oil residues, etc. , I carry UV filters, polorizing filters and even 2x-3x-4x filters just in case I want closer macros than I can get with just my macro lens.

I can't think of how many times I was in a hurry snap the photo, one of my oops I goats shot this NOW things and I know as I drop the lens cap ( witch is also hooked to my lens a safety line) and I accidently run one of my graceful fingers across the lens filter, quick fix is to also remove the filter walaa no fingers smdge! clean it later, don't loose the loose the shot.

Just my opinion, enjoy the food drink lots of vino and I think that you should take me with you instead of E R V no offence lol.r
