When I make HDR images with Photomatix, I wind up with a file with a .dop extension.
What is it, and do I have to keep it?
Don't know. I always "save as" Photomatix images as TIFFs.

Right. They save as tif files, but I wind up with a file with a dop extension - cannot open it. It's in the folder with the photos that were combined to make the HDR.
I save photomatix as tiff to my desktop drag to iphoto and make any tweeks in ihpoto or aperature.

It is a Digital Orchestrator file ... My adobe camera raw does the same thing I always end up with a weird .xmp file .. I don't believe you need to keep it once you saved the file as .tiff or whatever .. I just delete mine ... since I still have the original RAW file also
Also, for what it's worth, I run my RAW images thru the "Lens Correction" function in PhotoShop (CS5), then open and save as large TIFFs, then drop them into Photomatix. I don't know of any other way to do the lens corrections after the images have been converted to anything outside of RAW.
photogirl. the xmp file is the sidecar of the raw file, it contains your changes.
