I purchased a used Nikon TC-17E used from amazon, and mounted it on my Nikon 70-200 VR Lens, which its intended to work with, and I find that I get a very dark viewfinder, and I cant get a shot, has anyone else, had a problem, like this?.....I"m going to return the Nikon TC-17E, back to amazon, and just order a new one, I"m hopeing the one, I recieved, was just defective

Don't know why you can't get a shot off, but the very nature of a teleconverter is that you will lose almost 2 stops of light, hence the darker viewfinder.

Have no ideas for you. Mine works well with the camera and lens except for losing 1 1/2 stops. Good luck with the new one. ;)

I'm sure you will enjoy the 70-200 with the TC17E. I use the T14E and the T17E with my old original 70-200 2.8 VRI and get good results. If you pixel peep you will find a slight reduction in IQ, but at normal viewing size it won't be noticeable.

I too, own the the 70- 200VR 2.8 zoom.......what do you find different, using the other tele extenders?/..........do you find a great deal of picture loss, if you decide to enlarge a photo?
I"m shooting with a D800, I"m hoping that I can enlarge my photos, to 81/2 X11 or 13X20 with out to much picture quality loss..........I do my own printing, with my Epson wide carriage printer, what are your thoughts??

My thoughts are you've outfitted yourself well to get a good print, one of the best cameras, one of the best lens, just go for it. Print it, look at it, accept or reject it. Then, when you see what you have, you will know what to discuss or not, if anything. If the print is not good, look in the mirror for the cause. Why do you need thoughts - it's just a sheet of paper and some ink - be bold.
