Just found this site. Guess I have been asleep for 60 years
And I have camped the whole state maybe 100 times.

Cool, thanks for the link. When you were there, was there a lot of people? And what lenses did you take? I am a back yard birder. I have a small blind set up in the back yard and feeders all over the place. This was a bad year here. Very few birds around. I was just wondering if a 300 2.8 with a tripod would get in the way. I do have smaller lenses that get out to 400mm but the 300 is just so sharp.

During migration the weekends have tons of people but good photography is very possible but the boardwalk gets crowded. I use a Sigma 50-500 and a Nikon 80-200 f2.8 when I go. I think a 300 2.8 would work just fine.
