Wow. Discovered 19 quail eggs under our potted cactus. Here's hoping the best for the quail couple, and that predators (bobcats, coyotes, rats, snakes and various birds) don't discover the nest.
Do you have a picture of Mama Quail?
No photos yet. Only found the nest yesterday. We have quail wandering here much of the time. Didn't realize two had set up a nest. From what I read on the Internet, if I scare them while they're on the nest, they might abandon it.

I look forward to seeing your photos in the future.

Mike tried but momma was wearing her cloak of secrecy. Told him another day.
Actually quail are considered the popcorn of the desert. e.g. One day you may have seen 19 little quail following momma, the next day only 14, the following 10, etc. This reduction is because so many prey upon them. (The reduction by four a day is not the gist of this, it varies.) This is just an insight into what happens in nature.

Quail update: Sadly, predator raided the nest. While we were traveling a few days, mystery thief stole the eggs. Not a clue to type of thief because no shred of evidence. No broken shells. Nothing. Maybe a winged thief? Could have been a snake, although the nest was elevated inside a large concrete planter containing a prickly pear cactus.
