WiFi connection problems with WINDOWS 8

I recently read that members on this FORUM have had difficulties with WiFi connection and signal power when installing or using WINDOWS 8 & 8.1 and McAfee.

I did some research and got this response back from ASUS Techs. Seems there may be some problem when using McAfee antivirus and firewall with WINDOWS 8 machines and the driver that is called for during the system scan may not be up to date or compatible with WIN8.

I experienced this WiFi problem and solved the issue by installing the latest driver and then disabling the McAfee program. There seems to be no more problem after this was accomplished, but I use AVG2014 as my firewall and antivirus program.

Here's what ASUS had to say:

For this issue, please disable McAfee to see if problem will be solved.

If for some reason your wifi often disconnects and reconnects, please reinstall the latest wireless driver for a try.

If still having problems, please disable all other wireless devices you have connected, just keep connected your ASUS laptop to your wireless router. Disconnect the laptop link to your router and then reconnect. This will re-initialize the WiFi connection and in many cases bring WiFi connection to full power. If this is true, then the WiFi driver needs to be updated or you are using the wrong protocol settings.

If WiFi problem still exists,
1.go to control panel, open the network and internet ->network connections->network and sharing center->change adapter settings
2.right click the wireless connections , open the "properties"
3.hit "configure", switch to Power management, disable "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".
In some cases, the power settings will disconnect or power down the WiFi connection when system power setting automatically power down in "POWER SAVER MODE" when in TIMEOUT.

If you still have problems, please directly wire to your wireless router via a network cable to bypass the WiFi TX/RX in your computer to see if your internet link is still fully functioning and your protocols are correct.

If problems still remain, please backup your files and then reload your original win8 or 8.1 to see if that helps.
1. Turn on the computer.
2. As soon as the computer turns on, start tapping F9.
3. You should see an option that says troubleshoot, select it.
4. Then select the option that says reset/ remove and reinstall windows.
5. Then get started and wait for the process to complete itself.

From what I can gather, the problem actually is in the called out driver request done during the McAfee scan. I disabled McAfee completely and then downloaded the newest driver release for QualcommAntheros Wireless LAN and I haven't seen the problem return.

I thought I'd pass this info on to those members who have experienced WiFi problems from WIN8.
