It looks like the camera wars are over at least between Canon and Nikon. I was announced today that Canon has bought a controlling interest in Nikon and will eventually phase out the Nikon brand. In fact, rumors are that they are so impressed with the success that Adobe is having with their "cloud" sales of PS products they may try the same thing with cameras. I don't know how it would work. Perhaps you wouldn't buy cameras anymore only rent them for a monthly fee. They would have some sort of program internally that would shut them down if you didn't make your payment. You could turn them in every year for a new one, probably at a new higher fee.

Oh well I guess nothing is ever easy. Good luck to the Nikon owners, today April 1st will be a day to remember.

The report stated that it was the other way around. Nikon is buying Canon and Canon will now totally focus on video.

that's funny, I heard the Kodak is buying both of them, and will convert them all to point and shoot cameras, as the price of lens are high, and who wants to spend all that money on lenses when a simple 14-1000 f1.4 will cover it alll

Canon is not buying Nikon. Apple is buying both of them. As far more photos are now taken by cell phones, Apple has decided to take over the entire camera industry. The plan is to sell a whole new line of all in one camera, phone, tablet, and laser printer. The device will have a built in 1.4 5-500 zoom. a 4x5 inch LCD with 1 terabyte pixels at a price of $3,000. It will need to charged only once and be good for life. This device will be available as soon as the US becomes energy independant. And as a result will be called the Never Phone.

Actually, the real big news is that Tamron' 150mm - 600mm lens is being recalled for national security reasons. It seem as though the lens technology used in making the lens was classified and somehow the production process found its way on to the market. The Ball Corporation, who invented the color correction coating for the camera lenses used on the drone cameras was stolen two years ago by one of their engineers (now deceased) and sold to several organizations... one of them Tamron. Kodak has announced a proprietary new line of CF and SD cards that will be available only in 25 and 64 Gb capacities. Downloading the cards to a computer will result in transmission of the files to a proprietary Kodak processing site, who will in turn return the processed card to the photographer in its own branded yellow and red box. Beta testers have reported that files processed from the new cards have unmatched color saturation and are incredibly vivid compared to files processed in the current antiquated fashion.

National Geographic has announced an initial order of 50,000 cards which will likely make them unavailable to the general photographic community for the foreseeable future.
