I just ordered it, to use with my nikon 105 2.8 macro and my Nikon 70-200 VR 1 lens, anyone else one this item?

I would have asked before I ordered it. I don't have it and based on many prior TC discussions here I would not get any TC other than the 1.4. The image quality reduction from the 1.7 and 2.0 is apparently noticeable and therefore would not use for macro shots. It may be good enough for use with the 70-200 but I'd rather have my 70-300 vr which is really sharp and is not much more than the cost of the TC.

I do and use it successfully with the same 70-200 as yours. Didn't know it is compatible with the 105... ;)
Edit: just checked- it is not compatable with your 105 if you use autofocus see:

The rear element of the Nikon 105mm f/2.8G VR is recessed, so there appears to be room for the front element of the TC-17E II.

I cannot speak for the 105, but for the 70-200 it works fine. There is a tiny bit of image degradation, but not much and in most cases, not noticeable. Usually just a touch of added sharpness takes care of it.

The TC14 introduces almost no softness at all. The 70-200 and the TC14 is a wonderful combination.

I would check very hard to see if the 105 is compatible.

According to the Nikon site. AF is not possible for any Teleconverters for AF-S 105 mm f/2.8 lens. No limitations on 70-200 mm f/2.8.

I use the 1.7 on 300 mm F4 for the reach and the pictures are OK.

I use the Nikon 2x multiplier on my 70x200 and also on the 105 almost exclusively. Sometimes I do take it off the 70x200 but never take it off the 105. Personally I think its a big advantage using it on the 105. There is NO loss of quality. Yes, you do lose 1 or 2 stops of light which could effect in low light conditions. I am positive you would not have a problem using a 1.7. I have a 1.4 and use it only on the 200x400.
