A Gift From Pittsburgh

A blue sky and green grass are not all that common in southwestern Pennsylvania.

And it snowed last night.

Sorry, no story, no leading lines and no rule of thirds. Just a colorful picture - a place in time.

It really is amazing, but I live so close that I have become jaded.

An interesting building, but what's that strange color to the grass? We have only a faded brown variety around here...

It is a perennial that came out a few years ago for the southwest. It goes with adobe construction. Green houses in that part of the country are called LightRooms and the grass is called Photoshopped - it is activated by a cloud.

In Pittsburgh, the color stays year round because of something called permafrost. Once again, it is activated by heavy cloud coverage.

Not so strange after all.

I have spent days there at the flower shows. Never could do justice with my photos.

Over time the photos get better. It can be a tough place to shoot with the contrasting light.

Come back and have a look. Some areas remain unchanged and others change with the season.
