Surprised no one's mentioned this, but a Christian school in Virginia is in the spotlight, after all but forcing an eight-year-old student to leave because she looks like a boy.
Eight-year-old Sunnie Kahle has had her hair cut short since she was five years old, and makes no secret she's a tomboy. Well, Sunnie's appearance didn't sit too well with administrators at Timberlake Christian School in Forest, near Lynchburg.
Last month, her grandparents pulled her out of school after she was told her appearance didn't line up with "biblical standards."

For the record, the above is an uncredited cut & paste. It was written by blogger Christian Dem, a self described "radical lefty," and published online in the Daily Kos. You can read the entire article here:

Bmac, James condensed exactly what this article says. Some "Christian" school, huh, James?

He quoted it verbatim, and therefore I think it should be credited, so I did. :D
Exactly. I should have included the URL. Thanks.

Fundamentalist Christian, maybe, but such actions fall short of my belief in what Christianity is all about. Who are they to judge?
I didn't read the article in Daily KOS, but I will give the Church the benefit of the doubt if it had a dress code that violated by the young lady violated. And, yes, I posted the paragraph exactly as it was written. Thanks.

You are exactly right, the URL should have been included, and glad you did so.
James, why don't you watch the NCAA's rather than trying to find something to stir the pot?
BTW...Here is a statement put out by the school.
There is much more to this story than has been revealed related to Sunnie and the classroom environment. Our documentation shows a significantly different narrative than the one portrayed in the original news report. You can be assured that we have cared for Sunnie and worked with her grandparents for several years to assist them. Our TCS teachers and administrators love Sunnie and we can assure everyone that this has never been an issue of hair length or boots as it has been portrayed. It has been our constant desire over the last several years to work with this family and to shepherd this precious little girl in a way consistent with traditional values.

It is always nice to hear another side of a story, and your post above is an
attempt in that direction, but
the truth remains to be known. And perhaps the school, for reasons of their own, do not wish to reveal "their documentation" of what is really going on, and that may be in the young lady's best interest. I just don't know. Do you?
And SteveR, just sometimes the contents of a pot get a little stagnant and, therefore, stirring them up a bit can be helpful, even if the stirring is initiated
via a "commie-leftest" news report, like Daily KOS (no, you did not say that; those are my words).
By the way, were you
not watching the NCAA's yourself? Perhaps you just took a break to help me "stir up the pot?" LOL. Honestly, I cannot decide which is more boring, a basketball game or baseball game.
Tell you what, I shall not attempt to intrigue myself with why you post whatever you post on UHH; and would hope, in kind, that you would not concern yourself, too much, with the reasons of my posts. No disrespect intended.
It just may be that the problem with the child has much to do with the grandparents and with not having her biological parent around (assumption on my part). May God be with that child and may He bless her on her journey through life. Amen.

Go to their web site and see that the overall reviews are less than three stars. What stupidity on these people. What I have never understood is religious people "pushing" their own personal views on to others.....how "God Like" is that?

Tolerance. That is what it is all about. Not that everyone should be like me, or believe in the my ideals. I often wonder what these folks who despise the gays, or certain minorities, or political beliefs, would do if their own child took those stands? I would hope they would be tolerant other than asking they need not come to Thanksgiving dinner ever again. Seek to understand rather than being understood.
This is a private school, privately funded, and they can make any rules they want, provided they violate no laws, whether we agree with them or not. If you don't like their rules, get out, but it is really none of our business how they run their business.
By the way, it doesn't seem to me that they are pushing their views beyond their own little circle. They don't require or push for dress codes or anything else on any of us, just on the people that CHOOSE to go to their school.

That would put you in a true minority. Your comment whether you like it or not is pushing your views on others.
Maybe the real problem is how we view or understand someone else's viewpoint.
Maybe we all need to get away from being religious since one can be religious about almost anything that has nothing to do with being a Christian.
Over my 70 years, it's apparent to me that the "Christian Right" is neither!
