Orton Effect

I have recently got the PS plug in RedyNamix. One of it's features is applying Orton Effect in one step. Picture posted below is an example.I find I have to be very selective when choosing subject for this function. Comments welcome...pr & con.

interesting! my copy of ReDynaMix doesn't do this... do you know if an upgrade is available? i usually do Orton processing the "old fashioned way"... does the ReDynaMix version have separate sliders to control exposure and blur, etc.?

I love the softness look to it ...
I have perfect photo suite 6 and only have 2 choices for the orton effect .... orton clean and orton hears a who... this one is so different I love it.

No, not on the Orton filter, but on the primary screen, you have several different controls, exposure, light, etc. cost was $16 & I'm still learning (read playing) with it.

Michael Orton .. photographer ... he would take a photo .. lighten it to overexpose it then blur it and combine them for a special effect.

Ian, Think of HDR, using multipler iokmages of different exposures, now substitute various exposures with various levels of focus to soften the image, That pretty much is how it used ton be done ( Google Robert Orton). Save fore the fact we now have digital equilivents, ReDynamix being one, a great program plug in. HDR and Orton of various levels are included in the ReDynamix. I like this programs ease of use ( Digital moron here) and subtle to woild effects.

yes, the effect was originally perfected by Michael Orton, a Canadian photographer from Vancouver Island. he used slide film, and would take one shot properly exposed and sharply focused, and a second shot over exposed and out of focus, and then combine both slides in an "Orton Sandwich". when printed the result was what we now call the "Orton effect".

i've been using ReDynaMix for a couple of years now, but haven't seen any Orton options... guess i'll have to see if there is a newer version that i can upgrade to!

There is a process similar to this called "Stacking"(but it would seem to the reverse of the Orton Effect) where you make multiple images of a subject with a large depth of fiels, each exposure is focussed a liitle different and then all the sharpest images combined so you end up with a print with enormous depth of field. I would love to see someone produce an example. The technique is described on one of the tech solvers at the bottom of the Ugly Home Screen (IN blue)
