I can't for the life of me get a clear shot of this flower.this was taken with a canon power shot A2200 p mode,no flash and i believe an overcast day. It's a very small flower that looks like a rose without thorns.might be Bridle wreath ?.Iv'e taken many shots even as the sun sets to no avail. The camera is a point and shoot but it does have many settings.can anyone guide me in the right direction ?.

a Rose by any other name is still a rose.

Get closer, fill your frame meter off the flower, and take a shot, maybe add about 3/4 of a stop of exposure comp.

Comments:
If for the flowers, this is way too far.
Exposure is correct... For the grass, not the flowers.
White balance is fine.
The white hallow around the flowers is strange but then again since they are not in focus not especially strange.

When exposing white subject always underexpose your main subject (white) then in PP bring back the rest (exposure correction + masking).

If possible, meter the exposure for the flowers by getting very close (be careful not to block the light). Lock that exposure in, step back, re-frame the shot and fire away. The flowers will be exposed OK but the grass will be much darker.

These little flowers are tough to shoot on a background such as this. You need to get low, get close and expose for the white flowers. Bracket your exposures, too. You can fix a little underexposure in post, but once you blow out the whites, your photo is toast.

Thanks Rongnongno,I'll have to see if i can underexpose, which i take as a quicker shutter speed with this compact camera or am i wrong.Masking,i will have to master that also.I have had a problem with light colored purple too.Same answer for this color also i assume.
Thanks again,Geo.

[quote=bygeorge]It appears to me that 99% of the picture is the darker green and 1% your white flowers. The exposure is set for the darker color. You can compensate by setting your exposure to -1 or -2 EV (exposure value). You can set the shutter speed for much slower. 1/50 or slower. Then the DOF (depth of field) would be set larger with the apertura closed a bit.

I would try to get much closer to the flower. Good luck, David

Enclosed your camera data and a zoom in on your flower. It is easier to make a dark picture brighter than a bright or blown picture darker.

PS I think your white balance is fine.

Thanks David,I'll try fine quality with a tripod today but it 's windy so a slower shutter speed might not work.I will keep that in mind however when conditions permit.
Thanks for your input.
George.
