Yeah just drag it down the aisle, hitting every other passenger, and try and cram it into the overhead bin.
I posted something similar a while back involving the regular theft going on by the TSA. It's is a real issue that is getting out of hand.
Another suggestion I've read is that if it's going to be a long stay, ship your baggage both ways. Makes it much easier to move about as well.
I always check my bags, never lock them. I have never had a problem.

The trick is carrying your valuable stuff with you. Clothes and bath items can easily be replaced.

My only "valuable" I bring when I travel is a camera, maybe a lens and a cell phone.
Anyone getting into my bags will be the same poor ass coming out
I traveled all over North America for over 10 years for business. I was on flights at least every Monday and Friday, sometimes mid-week as well. Never once lost any baggage or had anything go missing. I had two cases of tools and equipment I carried as well as my clothing and laptop computer. Oh, there were days I wished my equipment didn't show up but it always did. This is not to say it wasn't delayed a few times, it was, but never lost or stolen.

I always carry on my most valuable assets. I use a PacSafe strap around my suitcase. It has a lock that can only be opened by the TSA. If you have a suitcase that can be locked with a padlock, there are TSA-approved padlocks that can be opened by the TSA but makes it much harder for anyone else to casually get in to.

The first time I checked luggage with TSA locks, I had to remove them. Go figure. Now I check nothing.
In the last 15 years I have visited 99 countries, seven continents, and every state in United States. My wife had a bottle of perfume and a unmarked box of aspirin stolen from her suitcase in the Dominican Republic. Stuff happens.

Ah, white pills in an unmarked container. You should have brought some white powder in zip lock bags. :D
Always try to send mine the day before by Fed Ex, it's there waiting on me when I get there.
A few years back I was strip-searched in Caracas Venezuela when they discovered NutraSweet individual packets in my suitcase. I learned very quickly in Spanish to say "azúcar imitación".
