I was trying for Rembrandt lighting using an east window morning light, but was a bit shy of that lofty goal. She doesn't stay still very long at a time and getting all her body parts in the scene is a chore. She was singing Bible songs, thus the small Bible.
Please assist on what I could do or should have done to improve. I often have a tendency to over process.
Canon 7D; 50mm; f/5.6; 160 ss; 1600 ISO. No flash.

I read the post to limit the size of the image, but I do not have a clue how to change it.

I'm not sophisticated enough with lighting to help. But your picture is darling. Worth a frame, regardless of the perfection of lighting.

Oh my I am not sophisticated at all! I just saw the blind pull sticking out of her head. Thank you LaurenT for commenting.

You can as much as like in section, I believe you talking about that other section. Here is my attempt at your request.

This was done in Light Room with the Graduated Filter.

When you not in a controlled environment like a studio, It's hard to achieve an on the spot photo shoot like desired and still have the window in the picture. Moving her away from the window may have helped, but would she have listened. LOL

Not a problem, just clone it out. A little post editing is required to make most photos what we want. She is absolutely adorable.

I like the lighting - diffuse and soft. Nice job. Yeah - don't you always see things like the cord AFTER you're done?!

I think the untouched lighting is beautiful. The retouched lighting is to somber for such a beautiful child.

Thank you I think she is a cutie, but she is my only girl grandchild! She is quite a character and loves to take photos herself. The image is much darker on the right in this post than my computer. I better think about calibration more seriously. I am able to clone and that will be done. Again, thank you for your comments.

Thank you, but after posting, it is even darker on the right, and yes there is always something. The longer that I am as a photo enthusiast, the more I find wrong with my images. Thank you for your understanding of my frustration and for you kind comments.

Thanks Bill, I think she might have moved for me, but looked in a different direction and I could not have gotten her eyes in focus. This was in a 12x12 room, so I did not have a great deal of room to maneuver. I still can not get that dimensional look I am after. I am memorized by Bill Gekas' work with light and dimension. Any ideas?

I'm really not a manual person, but you might have tried a lower ISO yours was at 1600.

I see you brought into Light Room, Did you use the Graduated Filter. You might have to click on Inverse to get to adjust the are in question.

I didn't see the Cord behind her. I will send you a corrected version in a PM>
