I'm new here and was asked to post some shots, so here's some random choices. All were shot manual and handheld. The first two with a Nikon D3100, the third used an EOS XS, various lenses. First shot saw a lot of PP, there were a lot of powerlines in the original.

Splendid work! Especially ## 1,3. How much post was done on #3? What kind of post?

Thank you! I'm using PS Elements 2. Not exactly cutting-edge but it's all I have rite now. Mainly used cloning to rid the powerlines, but played with saturation, color levels and fill flash to get an eerie feel. My PP skills are limited, but I'm working on it. Here's the original file;

Sorry, you asked about #3, not #1...#3 is straight off the card, no post. I shot a series while the pup sat there, mainly upping the ISO and that was the best of the series, I ended up at f/5, 1/60, 800iso, at 124mm. That was with the EOS and a 55-250mm IS lens.

I love #3 because the pup has a wonderful eye contact and expression. Also because pup is razor sharp. The large wheel in the background adds a lot to the shot: it sets the scene as some sort of farm or ranch or rural. And the wheel is enough out of focus to not be a distraction. Splendid work. And the pup looks smart, too.

Nice work, but this puts you in no man's land in the Nikon/Canon wars.

I lucked out that she stayed there. I saw that wheel in my frame and fired away. She normally runs off when I start shooting, camera shy. You'll see more of her as I post. She's always close and very photogenic, which makes her my go-to subject. Whether she likes it or not :D

I recently sold the EOS and Canon gear. I'm all Nikon now. Had to make a decision. I wanted new lenses and having different brands just didn't make sense. Obviously, I chose sides but still stay clear of those battles. It wasn't an easy decision.

Smart choice. But would you even consider a nomination for Nikon poster boy? :XD:

I'm chuckling over the Nikon/Canon question.

Years ago, in the days of "real" film, I attended a seminar by a top NYC shooter. She talked at one point about providing stock photos to The Image Bank, the leading stock agency.

She'd always used Nikon and some of her images were used in Nikon advertising. Sometimes Canon or Olympus wanted to use her image(s) in their ads as well. On those occasions she signed statements that the images at question had been shot with Canon or Olympus gear. Everyone knew it was a crock but everyone was happy. She got her commission, and the other camera companies ran ads claiming the images were shot with their brand of gear.

The same shooter also had a lot of stock of interesting looking characters shot around the USA. To enable stock sales she was glad to sign false statements that the images had been shot in England, Scotland, or wherever.

Hi I like no 1 and love no 3, for me no 2 is a bit too fuzzy. Welcome.

OddJobber; I am honored by your consideration, but respectfully decline. :lol:

LAShooter; Great story! Although it does undermine my belief in truth in advertising. Ha!

nanaval; Thank you. #2 is an odd choice and not one I'd frame or display. When cropped/zoomed the vapor trail appears un-obstructed. The branches partially blocked the view, so did the camera "render" a solid vapor trail? Thats the appeal for me on that one.
We're in a flight path and I'm challenged to get a decent shot of jets in flight. I have (poor) shots at sunset, with the jet glowing orange and vapor trails off the nose, engines and tail. Its a neat vision, but I've yet to capture it with much success. They're at considerable altitude and obviously fast moving. My longest zoom is a Sigma 70-300 (manual focus) and I haven't seen much improvement with tripod over handheld. I'm sure my equipment limits me, but also sure my technique needs work. Any suggestions are welcome!
