Purchased a Nikon Speedlight SB-80DX last fall and later purchased a Nikon D7000 (gave older D70s with several lenses to son--he was as happy with his new camera as I was with mine). I have two questions: (1) Can the SB-80DX be used with the D7000 until I have saved enough pennies to buy a new flash (it seems somewhere someone suggested that use of the SB-80DX could cause problems), and (2) when I have saved sufficient pennies what flash should I consider? I am not a professional by any stretch but I have been an enthusiastic amateur since before purchase of my first Nikon F (w/then new thru the lens metering) in 1966. Thanks in advance for your advice.
The SB-80-DX will work just fine with your D7000, but you will not have TTL compatibility. Use it in Auto or Manual modes and it will be fine. It will also function quite well as a remote flash after you have found a Nikon CLS compatible TTL flash unit in the future.
