I am starting a movement right here today. It is for the salvation of all Americans. The movement will BAN reality television! The American people are getting dumber than the couch they are sitting on!
Write your congressman! Picket the White House! Change your channel before it's too late! Save our last remaining brain cells!
Here, here! The most real thing about reality TV shows is that they are NOT real!!
It's not just reality shows, most of what's on TV is senseless garbage. The "Gossip" shows (Inside edition, et al), the phony awards shows, it's all garbage...

Do we really want to gut the 1st amendment? Banning reality TV will just send the populace to monster-truck rallys and whatever...
I think you just need one of these:

I am usually influenced into having a "new movement" of my own every time one of those stupid programs comes on. ;)

Indeed. The irony is that these "reality" shows are themselves often scripted and contrived - and yet they are still void of anything contributing to culture or the betterment of the country.
"Good TV' these is extremely rare these days. I would consider the following as excellent television:
- Sherlock
- Cosmos with Neil deGrasse Tyson
- House of Cards
- Rake (Australian version)

if you like unpolitically correct spy cartoons... check out Archer on netflix
I has a friend whose son has worked on several of these shows, and he assured us they are all heavily scripted. There was one about using a metal detector to find buried treasure. My friend's son's job was to go bury stuff so that they could find it later. He buried some old bullets in the yard of a house that George Washington purportedly slept in, and the searchers magically discovered the bullets, which were then "verified" as authentic by some imposter.

I agree. Just watch the news and watch what happens in DC. It just the same as a reality show. Nothing true!

Good idea. Will you grant an exception for the conventions every four years?
Many of us are old enough to remember when all TVs were called "Idiot Boxes." It keeps becoming more obvious why that was aid. I remember an old ad on radio where two guys were arguing "radio" VS. TV. One said that they both "expanded the mind" - the the other said that TV only expanded the mind up to 21"
Tho only difference now is the larger screens - my mind gets "expanded" up to 72" now - and I have such poor eyesight that I can't watch it. I come here, or turn on a good radio station or read a book (I can see up close) and my mind expands throughout the universe.
I agree-we really should not ban them, even though they are really all garbage
