Sony Cyber-Shot DSC HS60V Advice Please

Hi,

Does anyone on UHH have or know anything about the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC HS60V. My Sister is thinking of buying this camera. She wants to take it to Europe and is attracted by the Panorama feature. Is the Panorama feature a gimmick, how well does it work? She would also like to blow up some of her images for large prints and canvases. What would be the maximum size for this. She doesn't do any Post Processing. If you have any other recommendations they would be appreciated.

Thanks
Anne

Don't think this is a current Sony model number...at least I can't find anything on it. However I have Sony cameras with panorama features. It works well but I would suggest a few practice runs to get an understanding of how it works. Just put the camera in panorama mode and follow the instructions on the screen. Push the shutter and pan the scene. Normally from left to right. Don't forget to take it off panorama mode when done.

Thanks James, My mistake on the model number it is HX60V. How big would you enlarge the images to?

It has a small 1/2.3 type sensor but 20.4 megapixels, same as my Sony HX300. I have printed up to 11" x 14" with very good results. I'm afraid any thing larger will become more softer and pixelated as you increase in size. Sorry about terms in imperial measurements. We still use inches in the US for print sizes, not sure what you use in Australia. But it is a very nice little pocket sized camera. Has a good lens (Sony's G series) which is their premier brand.

Thanks James,

Australia is metric but I was born and schooled in Jersey, Channel Islands and still work in imperial.

Here's a panorama I took with the Sony RX100 last year. It has a larger sensor, but a similar 20 mp. I wouldn't consider the results or the function 'gimmicky'. Just my 2 cents. :-)

The Sony Pano feature is great. Sample att'd. Easy to get used to. Trial & error makes perfect. Go for it!!

The RX100 pano is 8192 x 1856 pixels. So, if printed at 300 ppi it would be about 27" x 6"; at 200 ppi it would be about 41" x 9".

Big. It was on a 16+ mega pixel camera @ full res.
The file is 2.5 mb so should print out big. How big do you want it?
