I found this in a small Camellia tree near my front door. A hummingbird flitted away when I walked outside and I figured there might be a nest. Sure enough.....!!!

This was hard to photograph. Had to hold my heavy lens and camera in one had and try to focus as I was using my other hand to pull the branch down so I could see into the nest. I was very, very careful not to disturb the nest or let the eggs fall out.

Nice shot. Don't think I've seen a Hummingbird nest before. Cool.

Thanks! I saw just one other many years ago from my two story window.

I can't wait to see the babies. Here is a link I found with info about hummingbirds and their eggs and nest. http://howtoenjoyhummingbirds.com/hummingbird_nests.htm

How large (small) is the nest? Looking forward to seeing more as the family grows up.

Why thanks! As I said, it was like juggling to get this shot. Hopefully the next shots will be sharper. I think I will use a ladder instead of a step stool next time so I can get above the nest. I don't want to disturb the momma too much though.

As I get more photos of the progression I will post them here ;)

Wonderful photo of hidden treasure. It looks like the nest is lined with spider web silk.

It is only about 1 1/2 inches wide and just a little deeper.

Thanks! That is a great observation! I included a link above that I found today that tells you more. The momma bird uses spiderwebs as well as other soft, fluffy material.

Wow! My daughter and I will follow this with much interest! We have four feeders, with Anna's and Rufous hummingbirds, but we have never found a nest.

You might also find this interesting. A fellow UHH member posted this link a while back. It is a live cam of eagles and their chick. I have been watching it for weeks.
