They're close, that's for sure. :-D Good sharp close-ups. That's a fine camera. I certainly enjoy mine.

Looks like a nice cat. An angry, frightened cat would not have let you do that. From this one's expression it looks like it would love a little petting. I notice that people often leave out the brand of camera....don't know what an sx50 is.

By opinions, I hope you mean also suggestions. Get out of full auto. You were shooting in full sun wide at 160/th, f/6.5, ISO 200 at 215mm equivalent. At 215 mm and that f stop you had a depth of field of about 1 inch. Your spot focus was on the tip of the nose which left focus falling off at the eyes, which should have been the point of focus.

You could change your f stop to 9 or 11, which would give you a couple of more inches in focus, and up your ISO to 800 to compensate. Or you could get over not being a cat lover and move in a few feet closer. That would let you use a shorter focal length which would also increase your depth of field. :)
