Why do so few people follow the direction of the contest?.
You have many people voting on photos that have nothing to do with the contest.
Something is amiss here.
What are your thoughts ?.

I think it is a difficult thing to control when the UHH members vote rather than a select panel of discerning judges.I would like to see the top 5 picked by judges with a short quote as to why they were picked. I would be more inclined to submit shots and it would probably result in people being more careful and thoughtful about their submissions. IMHO.

This has been discussed before. Some posters treat it like another version of Photo Gallery, and others just have to be seen. One even posted, "I don't have an "abc", so here's a picture of my "xyz" instead.

May I ask which Contest you are referring to?

It's what it is. Lots of fun for some folks and a joke for others. The vote is on what folks like not what is "good" photography. In my Not So Humble Opinion that is not all bad. If someone wants to set up a contest with qualified judges let them go for it. Sometimes it fun to have something that is just based on what you like. - Dave

Probably should have said "some people" instead of "so few people". St3v3 does a pretty good job of policing. I went back and looked for the "xyz" example I mentioned, but it was deleted.

Just curious as there is a Contest running with Submissions and Voting at the same time. Always trying to improve the WPCs. Thanks. Steve

Looking at the contest for "Shadows" it is obvious several cannot tell a shadow from a reflection.

St3v3m, I agree with others here, you are doing a great job and I really don't know how you find the time to conduct these contests as regular as you do. My hat is off to you!
However, I guess the thing that bothers me is some, not all, some of the rules are not being followed. I had a photo that was deleted because it did not follow the rules of he contest....I chose not to challenge it. BUT, in the contest, "Product Shot" the rules of this contest is the same as all others; Read -
You are encouraged to shoot within the challenge week.
Entries that do not follow the theme will be deleted.
Entries without a title or description will be deleted.
Please see the very last photo of this contest, there is no title. Yet the photo remains.. That's my issue.
Again, you are performing a great service to UHH and I admire you for it and I try to get out and take a photo of the contest within the week the contest runs. Many, many others do not follow these suggestions.
Thanks for letting me "vent" for a spell!!
Keep up the GREAT work too!

Hey SqBear, it is great to hear from you and I appreciate the kind words.
As to your point, I will clarify.
- I pull entries that do not qualify for the theme as fast as I find them so that you may re-enter if you wish.
- Untitled entries receive a warning PM and are pulled before voting begins.
Thanks again, and I look forward to seeing you win a few this year! Steve

I never bother as there are "favourites" on UHH who get accolades for their pics whether deserved or not...some in the Photo Gallery get page after page of replies to what is pretty ordinary stuff while others who post some really interesting shots get very little attention...the only way any contest should be judged is independently...

I only look at about 10% of the pictures so the title has a lot to do with my looking. The other thing is some ask for comments and then respond to the comments and it goes on. Not much you can say to a great picture you just look and enjoy - Dave

Yes. I saw that too, but it's not being run by Steve.
