We had a lovely but long drive from Auckland to New Plymouth. There were lots of photo ops along the way, but no one was willing to stop for me. I found quite a few once we got to New Plymouth, including some that are rather amusing. Hope you enjoy these.

The bikes could be anywhere. I just liked the way they were arranged and the way the light was hitting them.

I've never seen anything like the second shot. It needs no explanation.

In the photo titled "Looking Downstream" a man and his son had just finished several hours worth of rock stacking. When the tide comes back in, it will flood this stream and ruin his efforts. He didn't seem to care.

Thanks bcheary. I'm not sure how many people like looking at someone's travel photos, but I thought I'd share a few. It was a pretty day, but not really worth 6 hours each way in the car. There's ocean near Auckland, too. :-)

I'm ready to go back. I think I could be happy living there, but they don't want people moving in unless they can contribute.

Maybe we'll make it to Australia. It's on the list.

Thanks for looking and commenting Earl. I always appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks Sylvia. You are right about beauty around every corner. It's an amazing place with lots to offer. I still want to see the south island. The 10 days I was away wasn't enough.

I've heard that they're quite different. One of my dearest friends was there several years ago and made the same comment. My husband didn't have a chance to see much of either island since his trips there were all business and no time to play.

Yes, those are rocks - rocks from the river. They spent a great deal of time trying to balance them. We were looking down from a small, foot bridge. I think everyone was amazed that anyone would undertake such a project.

Thanks for looking. I'm glad you enjoyed the shots.

It's high on the list of places to visit. I'd like to combine the trip with a few weeks in Australia. It's not likely to happen anytime soon, but who knows? My husband has spent a lot of time working in New Zealand and may have to go back at some point fairly soon.

I hope you make it downunder. We had the best time in San Francisco in Sept 2012, walked the whole city just about, absolutely loved it. We walked the Golden Gate bridge, (clear day), went to Alcatraz, Ocean Beach, stayed in a little hotel called the Baldwin just near the Chinatown Gate. Even saw about 30 naked men milling about on a main street corner in the Castro. I didn't have my camera that day, probably a good thing. We are hoping for another USA trip maybe next year. Jude.

Nice series! I can't help but think of what you might get by wading in the water for a low shot of the stacked rocks. Guess you will have to go back to try it.
