I have just bought the same set up & intend doing some aerial photography. It seems that quite a few members have the same interest--maybe a forum might not be a bad idea.

What is the manufacturer and model number of your quad.
I am looking at getting one for myself. Right now I fly RC planes. I have already purchased the GoPro Hero.

Also when you panned 360 was that done by the Quad or rotation of the camera mount while the Quad was held in station keeping.

Nice video beautiful location.

I agree with Dook a Aerial forum would be interesting.

I have had my Phantom for 10 months and love it, also own a Pentax K5 and Canon 7D.
Try www.djiguys.com
They have lots of good advice and there is a section to post pictures and Videos.

Hi Nightowl,

I have been looking at a Quadcopter from Hooby King in China.
Walkera QR X350 PRO FPV GPS RC Quadcopter with G-2D Gimbal (PNF)
You have to add your own transmitter and receiver (8 ch) minimum.
Its alot like the Phantom. Designed to handle the GoPro.

Shutterbug65,
I would watch out for Hobby King from China, a lot of people have had problems with deliveries, I for one have not but I would try to order from their USA warehouse or also try Tower Hobbies.

Nightowl thanks for the heads up but I have over 80 orders go through HK. I buy most of my electric motors, batteries, servos receivers and a lot of misc. goodies from them. I have never hand a shipment go missing, never had a bad item. I have read a lot of comments about them having bad parts, poor service etc. but I have used their service dept. numberous times with excellent results. The only problem I have ever encountered is a delay around the Chinese New Years. I got caught once so I just delay the ordering time a bit. My average wait time is about 14 days which is acceptable to me since I plan well ahead of needing the parts. Emergency stuff I source locally and bite the bullet. I have used Tower when buying planes with great success they are good to work with as well. My only problem ordering from the USA is the shipping cost. Most places use UPS I get dinged twice once for US shipping then again by Canada Post. Coming from HK it is one shipping cost at the source and its way cheaper. So I buy goods from all over anyway sourcing what I need. I have several hobby stores in the US that I really like. Esprit, Aeromodel Inc., 3DH to name a few.

Sounds like you have some great flying experience, you should love the quad. Started doing FPV about four months ago, monitor only, and really like it. I mainly do architectural still photography and the aerials really add that something special. Weather in Chicago has really taken a toll on my flying time though. I upgraded to a Futaba T8J (my minimum recommendation) and there are plenty of YouTube videos to complete the setups. Definitely add the tilt control for the gimbal. I have the knob set to tilt and two switches set for special angles so I can just hit the switch for 90 degrees and 30 degrees.

I purchased a phantom 2 with the zen gimbal. Atlanta Hobby sold me an entire kit with carrying case, extra battery, FPV electronics, etc... $2400.
http://www.atlantahobby.com/Store/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=18101&idcategory=871

shutterbug, I was flying the phantom in a circle...it's a little touchy on the rotation, since it requires very little power to spin in place.

I was originally going to get the Phantom Vision 2, with the built-in FPV & camera... but the gimbal is very important for quality footage... also having a gopro in the deal is also nice.

yeah, the gopro/sd card is another $420
FPV monitor and telemetry/recharger $300
monitor bracket $65
carrying case $200
extra smart battery $170
extra props $20

so they get about $250 for connectors, soldering, installing software, calibration. This was basically ready to fly right out of the box!

Well not sure I have a lot of experience but I fly a lot. Up till now it has been all winged planes. I like sport and pattern flying. I am currently the president of our local club. I also am one of the flight instructors. I get a big kick out of teaching new pilots. We run our training classes twice a week throughout the summer. The students learn at their own pace we are not in any rush to push them through the class. Its all about safety and learning to fly well and having fun doing it. My transmitter is a Futaba T8FG Super. I have around 30 different planes. Some fly and some have never flown yet. I love building them so some I just built just for building sake. Quads are my next adventure. I am not sure if I want to buy an ARF type or take a shot at designing and building one. There are pros and cons for both methods. An ARF guarantees success right out of the gate. But designing and building will provide me with intimate knowledge of programming them and a lot of R&D which will allow me to modify it and tune it. Hence my old friend HK has all the required parts.
Its so nice to see there are so many others out there flying quads and integrating photography along with it.
If someone knows how. Please start a forum here so we can all share your experiences.
