Who the heck is Percy Harris and why should I listen to him?...lol
With a name like Percy, he probably got picked on a lot in grade school, so he went out with his camera and thought up sayings like that.....
Love photography and love racing....what a perfect reference.....!!!!
Are you trying to say you can't buy your way to making better photo's?

Why HOG?
I have several reasons to belong to the HOG.
1. To see my artwork and help me to make it art.
2. To have fun.
3. To inspire me to get back into photography.
4. To have fun.
5. To enjoy other peoples art.
6. To have fun.
7. To ....Oh You get it....To have fun.
And I am having fun. Thank you.

Now we're getting down to the difference between photos and artistic representations of what is in front of the camera.
Many photos are nothing but snapshots of persons and places and can only be improved by being more in focus (better equipment "might" do this if the person pushing the button doesn't jiggle the camera).
Other photos are beautiful images that could also be made by a photographer with a lot of experience and an average camera and lens.
So, beautiful artistic images "can" be made by lesser equipment and an experienced hand, but not by great equipment and just an inexperienced snapshot shooter.
Purchasing photo books at the same time you purchase the equipment might do the trick, albeit not as well as getting out there and practicing. Which brings to mind anogther saying.
A man was walking along a NY street looking for Carnegie Hall and saw a man with a violin case standing on the sidewalk. Thinking the man a musician that would know the Hall, he asked the man, "How do you get to Carnegie Hall?"
The man replied, "Practice, practice, practice!"

Some photographers are born artist. I am not. I can pick good art, but seldom find it on my own. So I look at many of the HOG pictures and if I can find a similar place I can copy them and produce a good product. My pictures are OK technically, but not artistic. Thank you, for your help.
