I am planning a trip to Alaska in July. I have set my mind to getting the new Tamron 150-600 lens for my Canon 50D. Can anyone tell me where is a good place to purchase this, and how long of a wait there is? I would like to purchase from someone, or a store, that contributes to this site as it has been a terrific asset for me. Thanks!

It's simply a matter of trying the major sellers and seeing who has one. The price should be about the same everywhere, so if someone is selling it for $800, beware. You're lucky you're not looking for the Nikon version.

If scarcity is an issue, order over the phone and make sure it is in stock and ready to go. You don't want to get an email in four days telling you that it's on backorder.

Thanks Jerry. Who are a few of the major sellers you feel comfortable using?

I'm really excited about going! I'm sure I won't have enough time to see/do everything we want to.

There are many: Amazon, Adorama, B&H, Cameta, Hunt's, Roberts. If you have one in mind, and you're not sure about them, ask here.

Sales tax might be a consideration for you, so keep that in mind.

I am one of the unlucky ones waiting for the Nikon mount. I thought about getting a refund and buying something else, but based on the reviews and some of the shots posted here I decided to just be patient. It will get here eventually.

He's in Montana, so the first 500 miles is by horseback or pack mule. :D

The canon mount is out now. The Nikon will be out sometime next month. B&H, Adorama are both good choices

I am looking also and have not found one for sale. B&H, Adorama, Amazon, etc. have the for Pre-order, but no one has one available to ship. Price seems to be 1069. Saw two in Vegas last month. One was 1400 and one was 1190. Guess I should have done the 1190, but didn't know they were so hard to get at the time.

M T Shooter was my first thought. He has given such valuable insight on the blog, I wanted to give him my business since I don't have a good brick and mortar store near me. I contacted him, he will not be selling that lens.

I used Cameta for mine. The last time I talked to Steve they had one left in stock. (800) 991-3350

I have often found that when I am looking for something that is back ordered, that Roberts in Indianapolis will be my best bet. They got me my D800 three months faster than B&H did. This is mostly because Roberts is not as large as or well known as B&H.
