Me neither! Lovely reminder of a disappearing insect in the environment. We should all plant more milkweed to keep the Monarchs flying!

Hopefully they will return...species is dwindling, I know last year in my yard did not have nearly as many as in previous years....fingers crossed for a return

Thanks for your comment. Does anyone know what has led to the decline of this species? This is one of the few I saw last year!

Yes, it is the lack of habitat for the butterflies. Man's encroachment have removed much of the breeding, egg laying, and caterpiller food, namely the milkweed varieties. Many articles have been written about this recently and people are urged to plant for this endangered species now. Last year I only saw two or three Monarchs at our arboretum along with tigertails and other butterflies normally much more plentiful.

The decline is due to the destruction of their winter grounds in South America.
