Extending margins of photo

A friend took a family photo and put the people right up against the edge, so I have few options for cropping and keeping the size I want. The background is plain so easy to clone or duplicate. In Elements 10 is there a way to add or extend the space between the people and the edge of the photograph to give more options for cropping? Thanks, John

Copy the photo. add a minimum of border, best color to compliment the photo. Keeping adjustong the width of the border until you can crop to the size you want without loosing any of the content. If your intention is to mat and frame, the photo will look as though it is double matted.

You can also go to File -New- Blank File in the Editor screen. Set your size to slighly larger than your current print. Also select a Background color that will compliment your photo since this will become your border. Copy the print and drag it onto the blank file you created. You then position it so the border is even all around.

Easy way that I just learned on this wonderful forum. Go to Image/resize/canvas size and in the lower box put in how much bigger you want it. Make sure you choose the color you want it also. and voila and boarder around your photo.

Can't remember now, but someone on this forum told me how to do it, so thanks really goes to them. :-)
