Yes on both counts.

As an example of what was possible check out page 263 of "creative Darkroom Techniques" - "another idea book from Kodak".

Wouldn't all of the SOC shots need sharpening? at least.

No...especially those that shoot with cameras that have no AA filter. Couple that with some really good glass, and I have to tone down the sharpness sometimes. The EM1 and the 75mm come to mind, especially when shooting in the f5.6-f8 range.

Without going back to look, seems to me the question was "How many do not do any PP", to paraphrase. I don't recall anyone stating their images were such that no PP was in anyway necessary, just that that they are satisfied with the images as they are. Here's one I am satisfied with as it is, what would you do?

Shot with D800, 28-300 lens at 56mm. Climate and surroundings were such that I put everything on automatic with the in-camera HDR on.

First of all I'd get new glasses. The picture is blurry. If you're really looking for suggestions then let's see the original picture.

...but technically since this was an in camera HDR, it somewhat blurs the line of being post-processed, since the camera is combining several images in the camera. I would be more interested in seeing one of the original photos properly exposed. The D800 has enough dynamic range to pull and push the shadows to achieve a really nice image (but that requires post processing).

Great thread! I'm enjoying all the perfect images.

My hats off to the folks who did post images. Even if I had an image I considered perfect, I would probably not have the guts to post it............my eyes are getting old and can't trust them

I shot slide film and did my own processing of the film which was quite difficult. If the temp was off just one degree the color would shift. My dad did layout work for some of the top magazines which used slide film most of the time and they did do work on most all the photos for printing. another thing different slide film had different results in their color so if you printed from slides which I did some processing had to be done...Rich

Whats that got to do with this topic Racmanaz. I used to shoot thousands of slides and ditched hundreds of them as there was no way to make them acceptable for presentation.

It's not about having guts. As a senior graphic designer by nature I have a rather discerning eye for what is good, and what is not. There was that other thread that had about 100 people posting that said they get it right in the camera and that their photos don't need PP. I stated that perhaps less than 1% of photos out there are perfect and just about every photo could benefit from a little PP. That all.

I thought I did check the box - here it is again. Won't argue about the glasses!

Needs sharpening and some highlight recovery. Probably would benefit from some extra contrast.

Nice shot though.

definitely soft...do you have one of the original photos, not HDR processed?

I prefer to see what I want to shoot and frame it in camera. That said, I always have something to edit with regard to color, brightness etc.
New approach though as I bought a full frame Sony RX1r and will be cropping with those pics.
