I have used Picasa for years and love it, and it does all the editing I need. I just installed the new version and I am anxious to try out the new features.
It only took under 1 minute to upgrade for me.

Thanks for the alert, DP. Have used it for the last several hours, and impressed with its almost-mirroring of AutoHDR's software - and without the delay in processing. I'm still disappointed that they haven't beefed up the touchup toolkit. It is a week point of both Picasa and other freebie products. But, on the upside, the tools are more user-friendly and masks are very visual in their immediate results. Again, thanks for the headsup!!

Every one should have multiple photo programs, they all do things better or different than each other.
PhotoScape & IrfanView are must haves too.
I rarely use PS, It cracks me up when I see folks explain how to do something in PS and it takes 20-30 clicks to do what Picasa does in a snap.

I've been using Picasa for a while now, but somehow missed the update info until reading this thread just now ... the timing couldn't have been better, since I just finished reading another post today with infrared images.

Thanks Bob.J for the list of effects in the update. Picasa actually has IR as a pre-set effect which I'll use until I'm ready to convert an old camera to IR.

Playing around just a bit ... found goood IR result if image is made B&W, then color inverted, THEN IR effect applied. Not great, but not bad either. More experimentation required to be sure!
