I thought since I now have finally purchased my D7100 I should start to shoot in Raw format.I use View NX2 to upload my photos but after they are uploaded to a folder I like to view & edit them in CS3 using topaz filters. The problem I have is when I go to open them in CS3 it says it doesn't support this format.I went into preferences & checked support raw format but still having trouble viewing them, can you tell me what I am doing wrong, please??

I think you first need to convert your RAW files (NEF, in this case) to an editable image format like TIFF or JPG before you can apply plugins such as those by Topaz.

The problem is : CS3 is about 5 yrs old. and ADOBE only supported the cameras that existed at that time ( as far as RAW conversion).

What you need to do is use NIKON software to convert your raw files to TIFF, then you can use CS3 to process them.

An alternative is to get a free picture viewer ( such as FASTONE Viewer) so you can convert the raw to Tiff, then go to CS3

CS3 is not compatible with the .nef files from the D7100. Adobe forces you to go to CS6 in order to process those files. Just the way they work to get you to upgrade your software.

Adobe does have a free DNG converter that will covert your raw files to DNG and then I believe you will be able to view and edit is CS3
http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5695

A couple less costly options or CS6 or CC are Lightroom $149 or less and Photoshop Elements My bet is on Lightroom.

Ok,that makes sense why I can't convert them in CS3.thank you all for your replies. Are you telling me Tbabij that I can get CS6 for $149.00 or are you talking about the price for Lightroom? Last time I checked CS6 was about $600.00,that's why I didn't upgrade!!

You may want to try Picassa, Fastone or Gimp, all free downloadable programs, before you spend big $$ on any PP program.

Well I didn't realize I could use my Nikon view NX to convert the raw to tiff so PS will recognize it so I am all set.I just couldn't afford spending all that money on CS6.

I just went threw this my self. You will need to convert to DNG
before you can use them. My View NX2 wouldn't even see them. I had to upgrade that version from 7X to 9X.

My NX View wouldn't open my RAW from my D5300, and it came with the camera. Sent an email to Nikon, they gave me a link. They have upgraded the NX View to Version to 2.9.0
