I was doing a time lapse of the moon when, I stepped out to check on it and seen this, it has not be altered beyond cropping.

Rainbow halo around the moon, I just wish the moon had come out clearer.

I stopped the time lapse adn tried to get a clearer close up, still no clarity, but I do find it interesting.

The moon reflects sunlight so the proper exposure for the surface detail will be similar to a beach scene. Something like ISO100, 1/100th of a second at F/16. Take one over and another under these settings and you will likely have a keeper (on a clear night that is.)

I love seeing those rainbow-like circles. Because of the contrast between your very dark sky and your very brightly lit moon, you would not have been able to capture detail on both the moon face and around it. If you had exposed for the moon (made "clear" as you described), all else would have been lost :)
