After having a differing discussion with Bob Yankle on the efficacy of a black background as opposed to including all that was shot. I thought I would do a topic myself and see how it flies.
Personally when doing flowers myself I try to move away from the tendency to look like a dictionary or encyclopedia illustration. To me flowers I feel are in themselves a sort of dream. I try to put that feeling in them and try to take them to a different world, a world I cannot always see.
There are two images to illustrate. One with a dark surround, but with a touch, and the second which I hope takes the viewer into a world not usually seen.
Thank you for looking

I like them both, but especially the second. Maybe its because I dislike snakes!
The snake was very harmless.

Very serpent in the Garden-of-Eden(esque). The juxtaposition is eye-opening, but muted so as to create a non-threatening atmosphere. Both your digital images employ "atmospherics" which are beautiful.
