There have been a number of threads recently about the cost of fuel, both petrol and diesel, on UHH recently which have shown the tremendous difference in prices that we the motorist pay at the pump through out the world. However I would like to know if any other motorist, especially in the UK, has noticed the immediate hike in prices whenever a public holiday or the school holidays are imminent. I have been watching prices in Dorset over the last two or three years and can guarantee a hike of at least 2 pence a litre whenever a holiday or holiday season is in the offing. These rises bear no resemblance to the cost of a barrel of crude, so we can't blame the Arab producers. Is this just confined to my area or is this a nation/world wide profit scam?

We pretty much have the same situation here in Northern Nevada. Prices go up for holidays.

I was on a committee which was contractors and our Nevada Department of Transportation engineering staff. All they did was whine about needing more money...just like our school districts do, and yet they waste millions upon millions of dollars on unnecessary items.

Now we have Lord Obama wanting to add another 10 cents on top of it to pay for the rebuilding of infrastructure. All the while wasting billions of dollars on roadside art and totally needless highway foo-fa-doo! Pisses me off to no end!

Not only on holidays here in Can. The excuses that they make up that we have heard are ridiculous. About the only one we haven't heard is that somebody F---ted. They had one last year that Ven.was going to embargo the U.S. We don't even get oil from there.

This has been happening in Canada for years. Usually, the price will be raised, for example, 5 cents per litre and then, after the holiday, it will drop 3 cents per litre. So, overall, the price will rise 2 cents per litre.

Canadians have complained about this over the years. A few years ago (less than 10), our then local Member of Parliament headed a committee looking into the matter. The conclusion was that it was all coincidence. His ratings dropped like a lead balloon and he retired from politics.

Either the entire driving population of drivers on the planet are wrong or there is a huge plot by the oil companies to maximize profits at our expense.

And for the record it is a well known fact that the government at every level cannot be trusted with taxpayers dollars.

Anything that happens, anywhere in the world, is all the reason they need to raise the prices. Or, just the anticipation of something may happen, works too.

I know it happens in tourist areas. 2 years ago I went on holiday in Northumberland over a bank holiday period. On the day we arrived at the local garage the price for diesel was £1.38 per litre on the Saturday morning I noticed that it had gone up to £1.42 It then returned to £1.38 on the Tuesday afternoon. Talking to the owner of the campsite he said that the garage charged the locals the normal price throughout the holiday period.

It is not just holidays. There is a price jump for the summer. Then fall it reduces slightly. Then a short time later they raise it again because winter blend with alcohol is being served.

The money went to obama's lavish vacations and golfing trips. Think of how many highways and bridges could have been repaired if he had kept his sorry ass in the office and did some much needed work and not waste the taxpayers money.

Shoot yes, that has been happening here for many many years... I worked at a filling station in 1957 and every time something important happened we would (the Boss, not me) jack up the price a penny or two.. CAUSED MUCH CONSTERNATION.... although at an original price of 23 cents per Gallon, I didn't see that it made much difference....
