I was using a "Nikon "Micro" Macro. It was a 60 MM F2.5 that has a minimum focal distance of 6 inches (from the processor). This allows you to get very close, and when you crop it after, it gets very detailed. Not an expensive lens, but if I did it again I would have squirreled a little more cash for the 120 MM.
