An interview with DavidT,

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
I've been into photography for about 40 years - off and on.

2) Do you have any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
No formal training. I shoot mainly macro/close-ups of jewelry for my wife and her metal-smith friends.

3) In your opinion, what makes a good picture stand out from the rest?
It depends on many factors and the subject including composition, originality, and the message conveyed by the image.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
Can you walk us through it? For this shot, I used a Canon 5D Mk III and 100mm Zeiss Makro-Planar lens (1/4 sec. @ f20) set on a tripod. The knife was set on a black acrylic sheet. I used three tungsten lights diffused through acetate paper. The knife was supported by a wire that was later removed post-processing. I also had to position a white reflector in front of the knife to highlight the blade.

5) Do you post process your final images, and if so can you describe your workflow?

6) Who or what has influenced your photography and what inspired you to take your winning shot?

7) Would you change anything if you could do it again, and if so what?

8) What is the one thing you wish you knew when you started taking photos?

9) What is your favorite photography accessory, other than your camera?

10) If you had to choose one lens which one would it be and why?

11) What lighting equipment, if any, do you take on a shoot?

12) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?

13) Do you have any funny or interesting stories about your experiences?

14) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?

15) Do you have any advice for the rest of us?

An interview with PW4GDF,

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
When I was in my teens I worked in a shop in England that sold cameras

2) Do you have any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
Some community college classes as a hobby when I was out of work.

3) In your opinion, what makes a good picture stand out from the rest?
Think about composition and why others would want to see it.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup? Can you walk us through it?
My tiny purple Nikon 3500 that fits in my pocket. No special set up unless up count laying face down on a park bench! A beautiful sunny Florida Sunday morning, walking the dogs in the park, we sat on the bench and I saw the makers name, then thought ‘this is a product!’

5) Do you post process your final images, and if so can you describe your workflow?
My workflow just stays at home on my computer. I post process a little to bring out more depth. But if you have to work a lot on the image then I think it was not good in the first place. Unless of course it is for fun.

6) Who or what has influenced your photography and what inspired you to take your winning shot?
The gift of sight is a big influence. When I realized all of the benches were in a line with no-one sitting on them I lay down and realized I could see though them and the product continued through.

7) Would you change anything if you could do it again, and if so what?
No I was happy with my picture.

8) What is the one thing you wish you knew when you started taking photos?
What amazing technology there would be in the future

9) What is your favorite photography accessory, other than your camera?
The Florida weather. Slightly overcast bright days are the best.

10) If you had to choose one lens which one would it be and why?
The one that works best for that special picture.

11) What lighting equipment, if any, do you take on a shoot?
Florida sunshine.

12) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
Crafts of some sort.

13) Do you have any funny or interesting stories about your experiences?
Well if you count dropping a friends camera in the river when I was asked to photograph her birthday party…………………

14) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
Only if you come to my house and look at my computer

15) Do you have any advice for the rest of us?
Don’t leave home without a camera.
