Sorry, but the question is ill-posed. It is of the nature, "Have you stopped beating your wife yet?" You can't take one part of the process and separate it from the rest. It would be like asking, "Which is more important, your heart or your lungs?"

This is not an either-or. Creating a photograph is a complete process from idea through presentation to a viewer. It is equally important to compose and take the image in the camera, including setting up the camera and auxiliary equipment, as it is to process it effectively to produce an image.

Asking the question suggests that the asker does not understand the photographic process.

What was that you just said to me a few posts up above here? "Who knows, who cares, let him have fun with it."

Have you ever heard of the word "touche'?"

I was going to start a thread myself but got distracted before I could get it ready. I was going to suggest just the abbreviations SOOC for "getting it right in camera" and PP for post processors with no other comments but require an image to be posted that represents the outcome of each individuals efforts. Then each person can compare the images and decide for themselves which had the most merit. I'll do a thread later. I'm not so interested in what software is used as I am seeing the final images. I don't think the SOOC crowd has any incentive to participate in your survey and I don't find the software pertinent because of the varying skill level of the users.

I submitted my vote but I really like your idea and would participate if you started it. It really is all about the image.

The first part of the question, "1) Do you perform any post-camera processing of your digital photos: yes or no?" if you answer yes then you can go onto number two, if you answered no then you cant.
You can't just start answering number 2 if you haven't answered number 1 so the question is not only valid as posed but it's pretty simple and straight forward.

Also not all people do post processing work on their photographs and have very nice results, it's call SOOC or straight out of camera, meaning they take the file and display it as is, no post processing done. So there would be no "Photographic Process" implying post production work.

A 7 page (and counting) "debate" about the merits of "getting it right in the camera" versus post-processing to achieve the desired image has been accumulating at http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-193013-1.html. Here are two very simple questions. Please answer yes or no plus the name of the software you prefer without commentary.
1) Do you perform any post-camera processing of your digital photos: yes or no?
2) If you answered yes, what is the name of your preferred primary post-processing software?

I'll total the answers up tomorrow.

Yes, I use Capture One Express 7 and final touch-up with Photoshop CS3. I am disappointed with the management options in Capture One Express 7. Version 7 has eliminated the root directory that was located in the panel to the left of the image display. Capture One Express 7 automatically builds image "Albums" containing all the images on your computer. I have all my images placed in folders that are named with the Date and Place - that works for me. I very much do not want to change my procedure. I asked Phase One to refund my payment for the Capture One Express 7 download and I would gladly buy and download Capture One Pro 7. Phase One refused to agree to my request. The "Pro" version has many more features - many that are designed for their Phase One cameras. I have a Canon 7D and cannot use the Phase One camera features. It does have lens distortion correction for my lenses, but the Pro's main feature that attracts me is the root directory on the left side of the screen, instead of the time consuming and confusing album build.

Capture One's solution for me was to reactivate my previous version of Capture One Express 6. Capture One is a great RAW file converter and I haven't seen anything on the market that comes close to the performance that Capture One offers.

My experience with this company, however, has been very hard line and difficult for me to deal with.
