great shot! what was the height of the nest? were you elevated when you took this? looks as though you're @ eye level w/ the nest.

They were in the top of a twelve foot tree and I was on a board walk about six feet off the water plus the height of the monopod, put me at almost eye level. Shot from 50 yds. with D800E and a 300mm f2.8 lens. Some cropping involved. As a side note: I used to shoot with a cropped sensor camera (300s) to gain the extra reach. With the 800, I can crop to 50% and still have a 18mp photo.

thanx for the info. i just got a d7100. i shoot mostly wildlife. I've been impatiently waiting for the tamron 150-600. have been using the nikon 55-300 in the mean time. our winter has been brutal so i haven't been out on too many hikes thru the woods. i work for a utility co. in providence, rhode island. have had a couple run ins w/ city hawks and falcons. we get some great blue herons(not in the city but near my house) but no rookeries here. they are just big and feeding. the offspring shots you got were spectacular. hopefully, things will warm up here soon and i will post some new stuff.

Nice capture dourob... if you say "Daddy is Home" or "Mama is Home" in my house our Yorkies get excited and start barking and jumping all over the place...
