The posted photos are the same picture with a closer crop on the second. I was wondering which of the two is more appealing and any improvements I can or could have made. Camera was a Nikon D80 with a Nikkor DX 18-135 Zoom. ISO 400 135mm F5.6 at 1/60 second handheld.

I was also wondering if anyone knows what kind of beetle this is? Interestingly, the poor fellow is missing an antennae.

Number two is better. Closer is always better. Keep shooting Practice always help to improve our work.

It is amazing how much better the shot is with the rain drop...it is like night and day....

I like the one with the raindrop too.

I like both shots, but the one with the drop of water is more interesting. Your beetle looks like an old, worn out Japanese beetle.

I like both shots, for different reasons. The first for the rain drop, the second for the detail.

Type of bug ???? Where is Edgar Allen Poe when you need him? Sure looks like "The Gold Bug" to me.

Thanks for the C&C everyone. I'm kinda partial to the first photo myself. It's a bit different than the textbook bug shot. I like the lines and it's simplicity. Make sense?

Both nice Bmac. The crop turned out great and didn't seem to pick up any appreciable digi noise.

The drop of water in the first shot is interesting, but I'd like to more leaf in front of the bug. The cropping takes care of the more space in front of the bug and still retains all of the sharpness. Both are good shots in my book!
