AF-S Micro Nikkor 60mm f/2.8G ED N

Anyone use this lens? Comments?

I have the opportunity to buy a used one in mint condition
2 years old in box and used for 2 weeks by a photography
teacher at a local college. I have tried the lens and it appears to work as designed.

Thanks

I have had 3 of them in the store in the last year, they never last long. I have shot it several times with very nice results, but I personally do not care for the MFD, its just too close.

I have the older version of this lens with the aperture ring. I bought it initially because I need an aperture ring when I'm using a bellows.

The lens provides exceptional quality images so you needn't worry about that.

However, the focal length is very short making your working distance for small subjects very short too and that means that sometimes you can't light the subject.

I use the lens for copy work mostly and occasionally for my bellows. For day to day macro I use the 105 and the 200 mm lenses instead both of which have a longer working distance.

I have older version of this lens and used it for macro work before getting the Nikon 105mm f2.8 which is much preferrable in my opinion. However, the 105 is more expensive and depending on your budget and how you want to use the lens, if it is cheap enough you may want to give it a try. Personally, knowing what I do now, I would have waited and just bought the 105.

The photography teacher used it for 2 weeks and is now selling it. While different people have different needs, in this case I think the teacher's actions are very telling. I second Sheila's thought, get a macro lens in the 100mm range. As MT Shooter said the minimum focus distance for the 60mm lens is too short at about 7". With the 105mm, it is 12". That's a big difference, especially for letting you get light on the subject.

I personally love my Nikon 105 2.8 macro lens, but if you have a good opertunity, and the price is right, and the lens is in mint condition, I would not hesitate, and pull the trigger, and purchase it!!

I agree - I've had both lenses. Much prefer the 105.

I have used the lens for about 3 years and it works fine except for macro. I wish I had bought something in the 100-125 range.

It would make a good lower light portrait lens on crop frame camera ....or just a good lower light lens for OTHER than macro work ....
