Here in Central Iowa we had about 6 to 8 inches of snowcover a few days ago. The temp has been climbing fast the last 3 or 4 days, until it reached about 60 today. Here is the result. This creek is normally a trickle. When we have a heavy downpour in the summer time it can get up to 5 feet wide, but in these photos it has reached somewhere in the range of 50 to 75 feet in width. This is all snowmelt. Now you have to understand that this area is relatively flat, so I have no idea where it's all coming from. The creek is emptying into a storm control retention pond. Tomorrow I need to take my camera with me on my way to work to try to capture a photo of it if it freezes overnight.
Melting too fast? What a lovely thought! Can't come too soon to suit me!

The pictures are pretty, but I know the melting of the snow too fast is a big problem. We have several puddles all over the yard and we till have big mounds of snow. With more snow coming this way. We live close to the lake and river so most of it will head that way. But you still have all the darn puddles! Hope you do not flood.

The frost is still in the ground, so nothing can soak in, it's all gonna run off.
Scary to have to be in that, I'm sure. Hope all settles down for you soon!
Here in Western Washington the melting of the mountain snows is already causing problems. A couple of rivers have been out of their banks and we have had flood watches for the past week. I work (volunteer) as an emergency communications operator so get all the dire emails. Glad I don't live in a flood plain.
So many areas of the country are in for snow-related problems this spring. Here where I live, the problem is that we had virtually no snow at all. It could still happen...

The floodwater in the above photo has been refreezing every night, so in the morning it looks like a mini glacier flowing into the pond.
