The Sound of a Pump Shotgun

Before I built the new home that I'm currently living in I was living in a huge farm house on a dead end road.
It had a big kitchen on the back with a enclosed back porch.
The door on the porch did not lock just the door into the kitchen.
My wife woke me about 2am one morning and said someone was trying to get in the house.
I got up and picked up my Mossberg 500 and made my way to the doorway into the kitchen and in the moon light I could see what appeared to be a black male at the door and I could hear him picking at the lock.
A small window just to the right of the door was up with a screen in it so any sound from the house would be heard by anyone at the door.

For those who don't know what a Mossberg 500 is it is a 12ga. pump shotgun but the wooden shoulder stock is replaced with a pistol grip and instead of a 26 or 30 inch barrel it has an 18 inch barrel.
Instead of blue it is all black and it holds 5 rounds in the tube. I had it loaded with high velocity 00 buck shot.
I raised it until it was nearly vertical and pumped it hard at that point the guy dam near took my screen door off the back porch I had a large lawn it was about 200 feet to the drive and it was only a few seconds till I heard stones flying as a car was going down the drive.
I lived their for about 2 years and he never came back.

Biden is right get a shot gun.

Apparently the guy trying to break in knew that sound also.

Mine too DEC. My heart was pounding as I read his story!

In a different situation I too racked a round in the Remington 870 in a very quiet room. Then came a sound from the back of the room; "OK, I give up"!
Whew, brings back memories!!

I officed in the Chicago Loop and had business to conduct before I got on the L to catch a plane at O'Hare, headed for Sioux Falls SD to hunt pheasants with some friends. So I had a suit on, carrying a rather fancy leather shotgun case with a Remington 12 guage inside and a suitcase. When the train pulled up and stopped a crowd was boarding and as I got to the door, the guy in front turned around and started brushing my suit coat with his hands shouting fire. At the same time I felt a guy behind attempting to lift my wallet. I elbowed the pickpocket and the door came shut with me and the blocker who was screaming obscene language. So I set my bag down and since I had my gun case slung (Army talk for up side down) I zipped the butt section open exposing the shot gun and reached in and punched the button allowing the breach to slam shut. The blocker realized what was happening and he must have improved the time record of the 100 meter dash knocking both doors of each car that he cleared and all on my car were clapping. It was a stupid trick on my part because he may have had a gun that was loaded and my shot gun was not.

I bought my 500 in 1968 from a store owned by paul newman's daddy. I quickly sawed the barrel to 18 in. I still have it today.mine is loaded with 3 rounds of shot and 2 of slugs.

My father-in-law has a device that he hangs on a doorknob. Enough movement will set it off. There are two settings. One sounds like a Doberman barking and growling. the other sounds like the pump action on a shotgun. I love the sound of the pump action. I love it even more when I have the actual gun in my hand.

Handgun in a dark room requires accuracy that is difficult. I like the spray pattern of a sawed off shotgun. You know one of those that some folks say are illegal. Not that I know anything about illegal weapons. Never mind. Delete this post and don't tell anyone you read it here.
